Reducing our Carbon Footprint
We would like to reduce our carbon footprint as far as we can and hence we have asked the Carbon Trust to conduct site surveys and make recommendations for areas to make further improvement.
During 2009 we intend to measure our Carbon Footprint and put in place an action plan to reduce our footprint year on year.
We plan to measure our carbon footprint in the following way:
- Methodology: We will use the GHG protocol to calculate our carbon footprint
- Boundaries: We will calculate CO2 emissions for all Scholastic UK wholly owned and operated subsidiaries. We will include emissions that our company controls directly and also our direct electricity usage. Where we operate in shared office space, with no direct electricity metering, we will use accepted guidelines for estimating energy consumption. We will include emissions for leased vehicles and our own vehicles. We will include travel on company business that is paid for by the company.
- Data collection: We will use accurate consumption figures wherever they are available and calculate our footprint using standard emissions factors available from DEFRA.
- Verify Results We will have our results verified by a third party.
- Disclosure We will be as transparent as possible and disclose our methodology, our boundary conditions our data collection techniques (the level of accuracy and any estimates or assumptions) and the level of verification.
In addition during 2009 we will investigate the full lifecycle carbon footprint of selected key product types and aim to reduce the carbon footprint throughout their full life-cycle.
