Four books up for Funny Prize!

The shortlists for the inaugural Roald Dahl Funny prize were announced this morning – and no fewer than FOUR Scholastic books have made the grade!
Books shortlisted for The Funniest Book for Children Aged Six and Under include the newly published Stick Man by Julia Donaldson (illustrated by Axel Scheffler), and Elephant Wellyphant by Nick Sharratt.
In the category of Funniest Book for Children Aged Seven to Fourteen, Aliens Don’t Eat Dog Food by Dinah Capparucci, and Urgum and the Goo Goo Bah! by Kjartan Poskitt (illustrated by Philip Reeve) have made it into the list of just six books.
It has already been a fantastic year for Scholastic Children’s Books, with triumphs including the CILIP Carnegie Medal, The Children’s Book Prize and The Dublin Airport Authority Irish Children’s Book of the Year. The winners of the Roald Dahl award will be announced on13th November 2008.
- promote laughter and humour as a feel-good factor when reading
- draw attention to funny books as readable and enjoyable books
- reward and encourage authors (and illustrators) who write and illustrate books using humour in their stories, poetry and fiction.
The shortlist was announced to coincide with Roald Dahl Day on 13 September.
