World Book Day, 6 March 2014

We're very excited to be celebrating
World Book Day 2014 with fellow book

Scholastic Children's Books

Horrible Histories® – the world's bestselling children's history-book series – has been filling children's heads with foul facts for 20 years, and this year we are delighted that Terry Deary and Martin Brown have been chosen as a World Book Day author and illustrator.

Horrible Histories: Terrible Trenches explores what life was like for soldiers during the First World War. From foul food to coping with legions of lice – find out how your own wee could save your life, which animals wore gas masks and why Big Bertha terrified the Brits. It's history with the nasty bits left in!

We Are Writers

Turn your pupils into published authors this World Book Day!

We Are Writers is a unique literacy project that offers every child the chance to see their writing published in a real book.

Simple, fun and free for schools to take part, it's an incredible way to enthuse and excite any child, making it an ideal way to celebrate World Book Day 2014!

Start your book now so that you can unveil your free sample book on 6th March 2014… just imagine your pupils' excitement! Or ask them to write stories, poems, letters – any type of writing – as a World Book Day task and use the writing to create your commemorative book afterwards. Every proud parent will surely want a copy!

We Are Writers is also an excellent way to earn free resources for your school. You'll earn Scholastic Rewards on every order that can be spent on a huge range of teachers' resources in the Scholastic Shop including well-loved series such as Read & Respond, and Writing Guides, as well as the latest children's books.

If you're holding a Scholastic Book Fair, We Are Writers can be run alongside it to create a fantastic celebration of reading and writing – but it can also be run as a standalone project.
