Tamora was born in South Connellsville, Pennsylvania and
her parents were originally going to call her Tamara,
but the nurse who filled out her birth certificate had
never heard of that name before and accidentally misspelled
it! However, Tamora likes her name and in case you're
wondering how to pronounce it, it sounds just like camera.
Tamora's
uncle gave her an encyclopaedia before she could even
read and she thought it was such a treat just being
able to look through it at all the pictures. She later
moved on to 'The Cat In The Hat' and 'Winnie the Pooh'
books, which she read so much that they fell apart!
When Tamora was a bit older, she wrote loads of stories
and this kept her mind off things when her parents went
through a divorce. For a long time after that, she had
writer's block, but in her junior year at college she
managed to start writing again and even sold her first
story.
Tamora first wrote 'The Song of the Lioness'
with adult readers in mind, but found success when she
turned it into a quartet for teenagers. The rest, as
they say, is history!
Tamora now lives in Manhattan with her husband, four
cats (Scrap, Ferret, Pee Wee and Gremlin) and two budgies.
At least twice a week, Tamora loves to go to her nearby
park and feed the animals, she says she's a 'Crazy Park
Lady'!
After struggling along as a child, Tamora now has
a life that she dreamed of, but never believed she would
get. She says she has got strong friends and readers,
and she never takes it for granted.
