Bloggers’ Book Feast

Last week was the first ever Bloggers’ Book Feast – a day full of bloggers, sneak peaks at new releases, author appearances, and plenty of cake! Scholastic Children’s Books team member Jade has written a guest post rounding up the fantastic day.

Plus, we’ve rounded up all the twitter activity from the day below.

Last Saturday was the first ever Bloggers’ Book Feast, a chance for Scholastic Children’s Books to share upcoming books with a bunch of lovely bloggers. We were joined by more than 50 bloggers and the day was a celebration of all things bookish, with exciting author appearances, incredible upcoming titles and lots of tea and cake!

The day was split into two, and kicked off with the YA brunch in the morning, where we were joined by 30 book-obsessed bloggers and the wonderful Melinda Salisbury and Eve Ainsworth, authors of The Sin Eater’s Daughter and Seven Days respectively, both out in February.

The event began with a presentation from our publicity team; talking about all of the amazing new YA titles that Scholastic have to offer in 2015, including A Flash of Blue, Jessica Cole Catwalk Criminal, beautiful new editions of Philip Pullman’s His Dark Materials, A Game of Love and Death and An Island of Our Own.

After chatting about our lovely new books, it was time for Mel and Eve to take the stage. They spoke about the influences behind their books, and their excitement about the release of their debut titles. The morning was rounded up with croissants, book signings and lots of book themed chatter in anticipation for the fantastic range of YA titles that will be making their way onto bookshelves this year!

In the afternoon, we were joined by the children’s bloggers for afternoon tea, which featured lots of stunning picture books and children’s fiction and even more cake. We chatted about all of the exciting picture books and middle grade titles we have lined up this year, including Little Red and the Very Hungry Lion, How to be a Dog and Tom Gates Yes! No (Maybe). We even managed to get a sneak peak of Cerrie Burnell’s beautiful picture book Mermaid, and Sarah McIntyre’s amazing Dinosaur Police.

We were also lucky enough to be joined by author superstars Liz Pichon and Cerrie Burnell! Cerrie and Liz both spoke about how they became involved in children’s literature, and the influences behind their stories. It was really interesting to hear how Cerrie developed the ideas behind Snowflakes, and how Liz went from illustrating greetings cards to creating the brilliant Tom Gates! It was fantastic to finally meet some of the amazing bloggers, and chat about all of the titles we’re most looking forward to and can’t wait for you all to read.

Both events were a great opportunity for us to share our love of books with some brilliant bloggers, and celebrate all of the fantastic titles we have coming up in 2015. We can’t wait for the next one!
