Cesca’s top teen reads

If you’re on the hunt for the hottest teen reads this Summer then you’re in the right place! To help you narrow down your search we asked Cesca, our Teen Editor, to pull together her favourite reads from the Teen Summer Book Club and tell us why she loves them.

TOP FIVE ON SUMMER:

One

1) One by Sarah Crossan – This is my favourite book of 2016 as it’s a celebration of two of the best things in the world; words and sisterhood. Written entirely in free verse it’s a beautiful story that sweeps you up into the lives of conjoined twins Tippi and Grace. A quick read that packs one heck of an emotional punch. (13+)

Blame

2) Blame by Simon Mayo – A gritty family drama that flips the prison system on its head encouraging you to question how serious life’s repercussions are if you were sent to prison for your parents crime. An awesome kick-ass cast of characters keeps you invested right to the very end. Edge of your seat whilst reading stuff. (13+)

Private Peaceful Film Tie-In

3) Private Peaceful by Michael Morpurgo – With 2016 being the 100th Anniversary of the Battle of the Somme I thought it only fitting to go back to my ultimate favourite WWI novel. This was, and still is, the book that taught me about life and death, and how much the violence of war changed all those involved. Tommo, Charlie, Ma and even Bertha all became so dear to me and will always remind me how precious it is to be alive.

The Museum of Heartbreak (iBOOK)

4) Museum of Heartbreak by Meg Leder – A brilliantly quirky take on the joys (and agonies) of falling in love for the first time. By starting each chapter with an object from the Museum of Heartbreak Penelope, our beloved curator, allows us to get a glimpse of her life thus far. At times hilarious, heart-breaking and honest I got completely lost in the treasures of this book. (13+)

Gym Teacher...Alien Overlord

5) My Gym Teacher is an Alien Overlord by David Solomons – Finally a series that truly gets behind the sidekick! The sequel to My Brother is a Superhero is here and it does not disappoint. More ridiculously funny adventures from brothers Luke and Zack…and some evil Alien’s for good measure obviously.
