This why you should #GiveABook this Christmas
Give the gift of a book this Christmas and help turn kids into avid readers by reading their new books aloud with them!
Christmas is the perfect time to take a step back and share a story or two with your children. The wonderful thing about giving a book as a gift is, it’s the only present you’ll both be able to open again and again. The Scholastic Kids & Family Reading Report showed that across all ages, the overwhelming majority of kids who are or were read books aloud (83%) say they they love(d) being read books aloud at home, or like(d) it a lot.
And the most popular reason why they loved sharing a story aloud? Because it’s a special time with their parent(s). So, if you do one thing this Christmas, make time for bedtime stories and afternoon reading whilst it’s cold outside.
A majority of kids (68%) also say they would read more if they could find more books they like, and nearly four in 10 parents (38%) agree that their child has trouble finding books he or she likes. We’re helping you answer the question of which books to buy this Christmas with twelve different gift guides varying by age and interest. Starting from the 1st December, they’re written to make sure every child finds the right book for them, so remember to check back here on the 1st!
