Oi Cat!

written by Kes Gray

reviewed by Harris, 3 (and mummy and daddy, 34)

What was your laugh out loud moment (or moments!) while reading?

We liked the links to the previous books, and Harris loved the pictures and rhyming words.

Who was your favourite character? Why did they make you laugh?

We love Cat, especially his facial expressions!

Write a quote from the book that made you laugh out loud the most!

“I wish I hadn’t said that,” said the Dog. The ending and lift-up surprise really made Harris laugh.

What is your favourite page from the book and why?

We loved the first three orange pages when Cat is surrounded by gnats. We liked the pictures and they reminded us of the previous books in the series!

Why do you like reading funny books?

We have loved all the books in this series – both as a family (and as teachers with our classes in Key Stages One and Two). We absolutely love the illustrations and rhymes.

Would you recommend this book to a friend?

Definitely! Especially if you read all of them.

The Squirrels Who Squabbled

written by Rachel Bright
illustrated by Jim Field
reviewed by Ms O’Neill’s junior infant class

Squirrels who Squabbled

The Squirrels Who Squabbled was our favourite and we used it as the focal point of our Aistear theme: Autumn. The artwork in the book is beautiful and the children quickly pointed out that there were similarities between this book and Mr Bunny’s Chocolate Factory – the idea that working together makes things easier. This is our motto when we do co-operative work. We also used the Scholastic teaching resources during Maths Week; we worked out which squirrel had the most and which squirrel had the least in their cupboard.

I Can Only Draw Worms

What was your laugh out loud moment (or moments!) while reading?

I loved the part about the flying unicorn in outer space!

Who was your favourite character? Why did they make you laugh?

Worm Three – the yellow one!

Write a quote from the book that made you laugh out loud the most!

“Here’s worm THREE. She’s a different colour. No reason – I just lost my pen.”

Pick your favourite page from the book and tell us why you like it.

I liked the last page with all the worms when they say “All friends together.”

Would you recommend this book to a friend?

I would recommend this to someone who likes worms.

What other things did you like about the book?

I like the bright colours and counting all the worms.

Mr Bunny’s Chocolate Factory

created by Elys Dolan
reviewed by Jacob, 6

Mr Bunny's Chocolate Factory

I loved this book! The most laugh out loud moment for me was when the vat exploded and Mr Bunny got covered with chocolate! It was also funny when the chickens went on strike and they asked for salad. My favourite character in the book was Debbie. She was always going missing and the other chickens could never find her! I liked this book because it teaches you that you should be kind to everyone and work as a team and you shouldn’t be a bad egg.
