Remembering the First World War
Remembrance Day is coming, and this year we’re thinking especially of those who died in the First World War a century ago. Books are a fantastic way to spark interest and educate children about great historical moments. There are some brilliant, thought-provoking fiction and non-fiction titles for your children to read.
The most talked-about World War I novel of the year is Michael Morpurgo’s Listen to the Moon, plus there’s Morpurgo’s classic epic, War Horse, Kate Saunders’ Five Children on the Western Front and The Great War Anthology.
There’s also What Are We Fighting For? – a moving book of poetry by two master poets, which presents all sorts of ways to think about war and peace, from the First World War to Afghanistan.
For facts, photos, maps and more, try The Story of the First World War for Children, Horrible Histories: Frightful First World War, or Usborne History of Britain: The First World War.
