Happy Ada Lovelace Day!
What is Ada Lovelace Day?
Ada Lovelace Day is an international celebration of the achievements of women in science, technology, engineering and maths (STEM).
Who was Ada Lovelace?
Ada Lovelace is widely regarded as the world’s first computer programmer, having worked with the inventor Charles Babbage on his “analytical engine” creation in the 1850s, which had all the essential elements of a modern computer.
Ada’s father was renowned poet, Lord Byron. Her mother, Annabella Milbanke, was a huge fan of maths, so she raised her daughter under a strict regimen of science, logic and maths. Ada had a fascination with machines from an early age and would pore over the diagrams of the new inventions of the Industrial Revolution.
When Ada was 18 her mentor introduced her to Charles Babbage and they became lifelong friends and worked together on the “Analytical Engine”.
