Guidelines for submitting manuscripts to Scholastic children’s books
Unfortunately Scholastic Children’s Books is unable to accept any manuscripts sent via e-mail or on disk.
- The first three chapters of the manuscript, along with a covering letter, should be sent in hard copy form to: The Editorial Department, Scholastic Children’s Books, Euston House, 24 Eversholt Street, London, NW1 1DB.
- Your work should be printed on one side of A4 paper, so that it can be read clearly and without difficulty. The editor who reads your manuscript will often be very busy, and so the easier your manuscript is to read, the more chance there is of it getting proper attention.
- When you send your manuscript to a publisher, always enclose a stamped addressed envelope so it can be returned to you safely.
- Don’t worry if you don’t get a reply from the publisher for quite a long time. Most publishing houses receive an enormous number of unsolicited manuscripts, and it can take a while to work through them all. Six months is a reasonable length of time to expect to wait.
- Do not be depressed if your work is not accepted. Getting work published can be a frustrating process, and it’s often best to be prepared for disappointment.
