This summer, we’re asking children – where will you go?

To become a book adventurer this summer, all children have to do is download our free make-at-home passport. Once they’ve started reading and checking places off their lists, they can cut out the stamps included in the passport pack and glue them in. We’ve left space to write on each stamp where you’ve traveled that week – whether it’s Narnia, the circus or the wild plains of Africa!

To help them and you get inspired, we’ve asked some brilliant children’s authors to tell us about the book that never failed to take them to another world when they were children. In today’s post, we hear from one of the UK’s most beloved children’s authors, Holly Webb!

Prince Caspian by C. S. Lewis

This is one of my favourite books, which I first read when I was about seven years old. Actually, I was lucky enough to have my mother read the whole set of Narnia books to me, and I loved them. After that, I read them over and over again to myself. I particularly loved this one – right from the dramatic start, where the Pevensie children are dragged off the station platform.

The best part though, is learning more about the land of Narnia, and particularly the wild woods, and the talking animals and strange creatures that live here. I love Trufflehunter the badger, who takes care of Prince Caspian when he first runs away from his cruel stepfather’s palace – although my absolute favourite animal is the Talking Bear, who has to take part in the diplomatic mission to the evil king because he’s large and scary-looking, but won’t stop sucking his paws…

Narnia would be the best place for a holiday – beaches, woods, streams, and stray glimpses of dryads and centaurs passing through the trees. I wanted to go there so much (and I still do!).

Holly Webb is the bestselling author of lots of brilliant books for children.

Holly read Classics at Cambridge and was working as a children’s book editor when she began writing for children. She is particularly well known for her animal stories, like Lost in the Snow and the Molly’s Magic and Animalmagic series. Look out too for Victorian crime caper Maisie Hitchins and fantasy adventure Emily Feather. For older readers, don’t miss the Rose and Lily books, about magical girls and their adventures.

She lives in Reading with her family and two very spoilt cats! Find out more about Holly and her books on her website.
