This World Book Day we asked some of our colleagues to tell us about their favourite books that helped shape them into the readers they are today. Did we pick one of your favourites?
We’re Going on a Bear Hunt
There were many amazing picture books that shaped me into the reader I am today: Owl Babies, Six Dinner Sid, Guess How Much I Love You. I can remember my mum and dad reading them to me, but We’re Going on a Bear Hunt is the one that has really stuck with me. The rhythm of the story and the lovely illustrations of the family make it such a special reading experience – my dad would always race through reading the end as the family were running away from the bear, which made it feel very real!

The Story of Tracy Beaker
As a child I always loved reading anything by Jacqueline Wilson—she was definitely my favourite author growing up and always my go-to choice when I went to a book shop or the local library. The Story of Tracy Beaker is a book that has always stuck with me because of its heroine, Tracy Beaker. She’s such a vibrant and loveable character that you can’t help but root for her, even when she’s causing mischief!

The Worst Witch
One of my favourite book series as a child was The Worst Witch – I remember being absolutely addicted and reading the whole series in a flash. I loved the idea of a school for witches, and was desperate to attend myself! I think this series definitely informed my love of magic and fantasy books to this day.

Animal Ark
The series of books that I remember first getting me into reading was the Animal Ark series, which they’ve actually recently republished for a new generation! I remember racing through these books and begging my parents to get me the next book in the series. They made me realise how special animals are, and I could get my imaginary pet fix with all sorts of animals featured – even lambs!
