Tiddler is most borrowed book in Scotland

NEWS RELEASE

Tiddler, written by Julia Donaldson and illustrated by Axel Scheffler, has been announced as being the most borrowed book in Scottish Public Libraries – beating off competition from established authors for adults like Ian Rankin, James Patterson and Michael Connelly, who normally dominate such listings. In Scotland Tiddler was borrowed 13,000 times between July 2008 and July 2009 and more than 40,000 times across the UK according to the PLR figures.

Tiddler

Tiddler is the story of a small, unassuming fish who is able to wow his classmates with his imaginative stories – eventually finding that the power of his tales is strong enough to get him home when he’s swept up in a fisherman’s net. Julia had this to say: “I am so delighted that Tiddler is at the top of the PLR list in Scotland. I have a particular soft spot for Tiddler as it is all about the magic of storytelling. Children are the adult readers of the future and libraries play a really important part in helping to nurture this.”
