About this event
Calling all animal lovers! Join Katy Birchall, author of A Dog Called Hero, to find out about all the heroic things a dog can do! We are delighted to be joined by Lady Bathurst from the National Foundation for Retired Service Animals, the charity which inspired A Dog Called Hero, to talk about the important work the charity does for retired police dogs and other retired service animals.
A Dog Called Hero is a cosy crime story about a young girl called Haley, who has retreated into her shell since her dad was killed in the line of duty. Hero is a police dog who has been retired early – his handler was injured in the line of duty and he cannot seem to bond with anyone else. But when they meet, two lost souls find one another. And Hero is instantly onto a clue when the Whittaker Diamond is stolen. The perfect tale of friendship and bravery for young animal lovers aged 9-12.
The National Foundation for Retired Service Animals is a registered charity supporting retired dogs and horses from the police, fire, prison, national crime agency, NHS, and border force services by helping with medical and veterinary bills when their careers end.
