Read & Respond | CPD

CPD and Training

Read & Respond is a comprehensive literacy programme covering all major aspects of the English programme of study. It is a quality resource that teachers can pick up and use, safe in the knowledge that it will help them deliver the National Curriculum objectives through the use of a high-quality children’s fiction text.

To help teachers know the resources and have an understanding of the pillars of reading, on which Read & Respond is based, Scholastic are providing the following CPD opportunities:

Within the online content provided within the core Read & Respond titles, you will also get access to a comprehensive overview of the pillars of reading. This document provides an overview of the different areas of literacy, especially those related to reading, and explains how Read & Respond can support these areas.

It provides background knowledge, key questions, and teaching and learning ideas to ensure that all children in the class acquire the essential literacy skills through a combination of whole class, group work and individual learning.

The Daily Reading Lesson

It is one thing to understand more about using real books in the classroom, and understanding how the Read & Respond teacher resources help you to get the most out of every book (and child!) but it is another to see how it works within the context of an English lesson

The Daily Reading Lesson does just this. It is a high-impact, low-workload blueprint for teaching reading to children aged 6 to 11, and Read & Respond is at the heart of it. You can download a copy of The Daily Reading Lesson here
