About this event

Each autumn, a small red flower begins to appear. It flourishes at a time when others do not. But what does it mean? And why do people wear it?

Ahead of this year’s Remembrance Day, Scholastic UK is proud to offer a fantastic opportunity to hear from poet, performer and storyteller, Tomos Roberts. New book, Alive with Poppies, is based on his poem of the same name, which Roberts first performed at the Royal British Legion’s Festival of Remembrance in 2021. A moving yet accessible story, it is sure to help young readers understand the history and importance of the poppy symbol from the First World War to the present day. The event will also include live drawing from illustrator Sharon Rentta.

Tomos and Sharon will be doing a Q&A session during the event. Schools are encouraged to speak with classes and prepare questions in advance.
