Pause and reflect this Remembrance Day with Tom Palmer and Carolina Rabei

Date & Time: Thursday 6th November 2025, 11:00am

About this event

Judy is a dog who lives on a ship called HMS Grasshopper…
The world is at war. It’s fierce and frightening and Judy tries to remind her crew of their lives, of home. She tries to give them hope.

In the lead up to Remembrance Day 2025, Scholastic UK is delighted to offer a fantastic opportunity to hear from award-winning author Tom Palmer as he introduces his first picture book, War Dog. This remarkable story tells the true tale of Judy, the only animal officially recognised as a prisoner of war during WWII, and one of the rare animals awarded the prestigious Dickin Medal, often referred to as the Animal Victoria Cross.

Moving yet highly accessible, War Dog offers young readers an engaging way to explore complex themes such as war, bravery, and historical conflict, whilst also drawing connections to challenges in today’s world.

The event will include live drawing from illustrator, Carolina Rabei.

Tom and Carolina will be doing a Q&A session during the event. Schools are encouraged to speak with classes and prepare questions in advance.
