Building your library: classics everyone needs (ages 7-11)
Building up a library for your children is a daunting task, but it’s a really lovely thing to do – books are one of the only things you can give that will be as loved by grandchildren as they will be by your own children.
If you’re hoping to build up a collection of books for your child, sometimes it can be hard knowing what to pick. With that in mind, we thought we’d put together a mini-series on the five starter books we think every child would love to have on their shelves – in this post, we’re discussing our top five picks for children aged 7-11!
The Brilliant World of Tom Gates
No movie. No TV show. But Liz Pichon’s Tom Gates has still managed to make his way on to every possible bestseller list. Find out why and go back to the very beginning with the first book in the series.
Harry Potter and the Philosopher’s Stone (Illustrated Edition)
This one needs no introduction. The illustrated edition of J. K. Rowling’s wizarding classic is more magic than ever before, and the illustrations make it a wonderful story to read as parent and child. Plus, it’ll be a treat for you just as much as it will be for them! You can also find the brand-new illustrated edition of The Chamber of Secrets here.
No home is complete without a bit of Roald Dahl in it. Whilst his novels may be a more obvious choice, this is a fantastic way to get children engaged with poetry. And who better to teach them than the UK’s most beloved children’s author?
The classic tale of a girl and her magical cat, this beloved classic has been adored worldwide for over half a century – discover this enchanting story of riding a broomstick under the stars with your talking black cat.
The first animal story by Holly Webb, this is the ideal book for newly confident readers as they work their way up to longer novels. And there’s no better time to read it – grab the tenth anniversary edition in our November Club.
