Help us write a short story to celebrate the Easter holidays!

Make the most of the last week of term and help us to create a collaborative, funny short story – and be in with a chance of winning the book of your choice from our Lollies shortlist!

It’s almost that time of the year again – the one weekend where the kids (and us) have a legitimate excuse to do nothing but stuff our faces with chocolate. With school winding down and two long weeks of stress-free early mornings ahead of us, we wanted to take the opportunity to remind you about the Lollies awards.

These awards were designed specifically to honour the very funniest books in children’s literature. Michael Rosen and our other judges managed to narrow down a whole raft of submissions to just twelve shortlisted books – but now we need your help deciding the winners. To find out more about the Lollies and how to vote, take a look here.

In the meantime, we wanted to celebrate funny stories by writing one of our own – but we need your help! On Wednesday 23rd March, we’ll be asking you to help us create a funny children’s story on Twitter. We’ll give you the first line but after that, we’d love for kids everywhere to get involved and tweet us with a second line. We’ll choose one, share it and ask for a third – and so on. Every person who gets a line picked will win the book of their choice from the Lollies shortlist. Here’s the first line for you to follow:

On Thursday 24th March, the last day of term, we’ll share the final finished story on Twitter and here, on our blog. So, whether you’re a parent or a teacher, get your kids involved and give them the chance to see their story shared with thousands of people!

We’ll share the first line of our story at 9.30am on Wednesday 23rd March. Please tweet us at @ScholasticUK with your chosen line and the name of the person/class it’s coming from. If we choose you, we’ll be in touch to ask what book you would like to receive. Remember, if you don’t have Twitter, you can still take part – simply email us your line(s) at funstuff@scholastic.co.uk instead!
