Julie Randles, Head of Scholastic Book Clubs says, “We couldn’t have raised this huge amount of money without the enthusiasm and commitment that our Scholastic Book Club schools put into the fundraising, so we really want to thank them for their fantastic efforts in helping us to exceed our £50,000 target. We are so pleased to have partnered with Pudsey this year, and to be able to help children across the UK with our donation.”

BBC Children in Need Chief Executive, David Ramsden, said, “We wouldn’t be able to help so many disadvantaged children and young people without the support of companies like Scholastic, who join in our Appeal and make the commitment to Do Something Different for BBC Children in Need. We rely on the help of businesses like Scholastic to raise funds and are really excited to be working with them on this unique project.”

Every book that was bought between October and December 2009 from the Scholastic Book Clubs catalogue for primary schools and the My Book Corner catalogue for nurseries raised money for BBC Children in Need. Schools also continued to earn their free books for their classroom or library. Scholastic created special teacher and classroom support resources to help them make the most of their fundraising and also ran a competition for a school to win a visit from Pudsey on the BBC Children in Need Appeal Day.

Chyngton Primary in Seaford won the visit from Pudsey. Headteacher, Mrs Finch, says, “We were absolutely delighted to have Pudsey Bear at Chyngton. All the children were very excited about meeting with Pudsey and wanted to hug him – it was difficult to get him out of some of the classrooms! The children from the local Playgroup also come up to school to meet Pudsey. Thank you so much to Scholastic Book Clubs and to BBC Children in Need for arranging this visit – it was such a lovely climax to a fun day for all of the children at Chyngton.”
