Commissioning Editor

  • Location: London Bridge – Hybrid Working (after probation)
  • Contract type: Permanent
  • Salary: Competitive
  • Hours: 35 hrs per week
  • Job reference: 24.23

Scholastic is the world’s largest publisher and distributor of children’s books, and in the UK is home to many celebrated authors and illustrators such as Philip Pullman, Dav Pilkey, Liz Pichon, Julia Donaldson and Axel Scheffler, and series including The Hunger Games, Horrible Histories and Dog Man.

Scholastic is the proud publisher of Julia Donaldson and Axel Scheffler’s picture books and stellar brands The Wonky Donkey and The New Bum series. Recent highlights on the picture book list include NYT bestseller The Leaf Thief by Alice Hemming and Nicola Slater, which has been translated into 21 languages, and CBeebies star George Webster’s This is Me illustrated by Tim Budgen.

We are looking for an enthusiastic, creative self-starter – an experienced editor who is equally at home commissioning a beautiful co-edition lead title, or putting their own spin on a quality commercial unicorn book. The ideal candidate should be market-savvy and full of ideas, able to champion their own titles at acquisition meetings and work brilliantly with a variety of authors and illustrators.

Reporting to the Editorial Director, the role will involve commissioning innovative novelty, gift and picture books, developing ideas and concepts in-house, seeking out and nurturing new talent as well as working with established authors and illustrators.

We are a small team so we expect our successful candidate to pitch in across the list, working closely with junior members of the team as well as the Editorial Director.

If this sounds like you, we’d love to hear from you. Please send your CV along with a covering letter quoting the job reference number 24.23 to vacancies@scholastic.co.uk .
