Are you organised, detail-oriented, and eager to start a career in publishing? Scholastic Children’s Books has an exciting opportunity for a Contracts Assistant Apprentice.
Scholastic is the world’s largest publisher and distributer of children’s books and is home to best-selling authors and illustrators such as Suzanne Collins, Liz Pichon, Julia Donaldson, Axel Scheffler, and Phillip Pullman; as well as market leading brands including Dog Man and Horrible Histories.
We are looking for a proactive Contracts Assistant Apprentice to support our Contracts, Licensing, Rights and Publishing teams.
This is a fantastic opportunity to gain hands-on experience while working towards a recognised qualification in Publishing. (Level 4 Publishing Professional Apprenticeship programme via LDN Apprenticeships).
Key Responsibilities:
Liaise with the Design team to confirm font and photo library licence coverage.
Purchase and renew licences as required.
Maintain a central library of licences and ensure coverage across formats, territories, and users.
Track font usage across titles and ensure correct licensing for reprints and eBooks.
Liaise with Associate Companies to confirm licensing for externally prepared titles.
Support the Head of Licensing and Non-Fiction and Contracts Manager with contract administration.
Process approved contracts for digital signature.
Maintain logs and filing systems (digital and paper).
Liaise with Accounts and Rights teams regarding payments, royalties, and reversion terms.
Notify relevant teams of sell-off periods and reversion updates.
Upload signed contracts and royalty statements to internal systems.
Maintain contract databases and chase outstanding payments.
Liaise with Rights team on reversions and contributor copies.
Send finished copies to contributors and agents.
It is essential that you have strong organisation and time-management skills, excellent communication skills, both oral and written and a keen eye for detail. You will have a flexible, proactive attitude to your work and the ability to demonstrate solid problem-solving skills.
