  • Location: London Bridge – Hybrid Working
  • Contract type: Permanent
  • Salary: Competitive
  • Hours: 35 per week
  • Department: Picture Books
  • Job reference: 07.24

Scholastic is the world’s largest publisher and distributor of children’s books, and in the UK is home to many celebrated authors and illustrators such as Philip Pullman, Dav Pilkey and Liz Pichon and series including The Hunger Games and Horrible Histories. Our picture book team proudly publish Julia Donaldson and Axel Scheffler as well as stellar brands The Wonky Donkey and The New Bum series. Recent highlights on the list include NYT bestseller The Leaf Thief by Alice Hemming and Nicola Slater, which has been translated into 21 languages, and CBeebies star George Webster’s This is Me, illustrated by Tim Budgen.

We have an exciting opportunity for an enthusiastic, creative self-starter to join the picture book editorial team as an Editor on a full-time basis. The role is ideal for someone with at least three year’s experience in a full-colour children’s editorial department.

Reporting to the Editorial Director, you’ll be joining a close-knit, vibrant team with whom you’ll work closely to create a wide range of innovative novelty, gift and picture books across the Scholastic and Alison Green Books lists. Our ideal candidate will be market-savvy and bursting with ideas for new formats and concepts, as well as trend-related opportunities. You will be as equally at home working on a quality-commercial picture book about unicorns, as a high-spec gift book aimed at our co-edition customers.

You’ll be working with agents, authors and illustrators externally as well as design, production, sales, rights and PR internally – you should therefore be a great communicator, confidently able to work to tight deadlines and prioritise accordingly.

If this sounds like you we’d love to hear from you. Alongside your CV and covering letter, please send a short analysis of a recent picture book that you think has been published successfully to vacancies@scholastic.co.uk

Please quote reference number 07.24 when applying.
