Editorial Assistant – ELT

Scholastic is the world’s largest publisher and distributor of children’s books, working with thousands of schools in the UK and Ireland every year to inspire children to read for pleasure through its Book Fairs and Book Clubs programmes. We are also a market leader in providing trusted resources and support to teachers and students alike through our highly successful Educational Publishing arm which includes our popular language learning magazines.

We are currently looking to recruit a highly motivated and capable Editorial Assistant to assist our Mary Glasgow Magazine department with the production of our range of highly visual, teen-centric classroom magazines and their various associated assets – including audio, video and online activities and worksheets.

As Editorial Assistant for the ELT magazines you will require strong proofreading and artworking skills to enable you to assist both the editorial and design teams, to ensure all of our English language learning literature is published in line with the demanding schedules required and to the highest level of accuracy. Excellent attention to detail is required in the proofing and correction of the various magazine components (digital and print), design and artwork, as well as assisting with online activities, audio and video production and uploading content to our website. Editorial desk research and the opportunity to contribute to articles and create worksheets and teachers’ notes will also feature within the role.

Individually, you will be educated to degree level or equivalent with a high standard of written English and proven experience of InDesign/Acrobat. A highly organised but creative individual with excellent attention to detail, you will need both enthusiasm and a strong interest in youth culture and current affairs. The ability to plan, organise and prioritise but remain flexible and adaptable under pressure are also vital to the role. A TEFL qualification or experience of Teaching English as a Foreign Language would be highly advantageous, as would an interest in languages and language learning generally.
