Editorial Assistant – Picture Books
- Location: London Bridge
- Contract type: Permanent
- Salary: Competitive
- Hours: 35 hrs per week
- Job reference: 18.24
Scholastic is the proud publisher of stellar authors and illustrators such as Dav Pilkey, and Liz Pichon, as well as incredible series including The Hunger Games, Horrible Histories and His Dark Materials. We are the home of Julia Donaldson and Axel Scheffler’s beloved picture books including Stick Man, Zog and The Baddies; other recent highlights on the picture book list include NYT bestseller The Leaf Thief by Alice Hemming and Nicola Slater, which has been translated into 21 languages, and CBeebies star George Webster’s This is Me illustrated by Tim Budgen.
We are looking for an enthusiastic, creative team player with exceptional organisational skills. This is an entry-level role, with no previous publishing experience required, but the ideal candidate should be market-savvy and full of ideas, with the ability to juggle multiple different tasks at once. A passion for children’s books and illustration is a must, as well as a keen eye for visual and grammatical detail.
Reporting to the Editorial Director, the role will involve supporting the picture book team across the Alison Green and Scholastic Picture Book lists to ensure the team runs smoothly and effectively. As an editorial assistant, your day’s work could range from updating our internal databases, writing sparkling copy for a unicorn picture book, brainstorming an exciting new novelty format to captivate a busy toddler, performing a detailed check on a beautiful co-edition title, and keeping our production schedules up to date. You’ll be working with people from all departments across the company, so being personable and positive is essential.
If you would like to apply, please send your CV along with a covering letter quoting the job reference number 18.24 by 31st May to vacancies@scholastic.co.uk
