Managing Editor
- Location: London
- Contract type: Permanent

Scholastic is the world’s largest publisher and distributor of children’s books, and in the UK is home to authors and illustrators including Philip Pullman, Julia Donaldson, Axel Scheffler, and Liz Pichon, and series including The Hunger Games, Horrible Histories and Dog Man. We are seeking an experienced, highly organized and enthusiastic new team member in the role of Managing Editor.
You will work with editors, designers, the production team and freelancers to implement schedules that deliver the outstanding fiction and picture book lists; responsible for representing and leading the editorial component in pre-print progress meetings and managing the editorial process for all books with the key stakeholders.
You will support the department ensuring text quality and accuracy throughout the copy-editing and proofreading processes. The role requires you to have copyediting and proofreading skills and a sound knowledge of BSI proofreading symbols. Your accountability for some of the leading Scholastic titles will require the proven ability to ensure the highest editorial standards are met. You’ll be responsible for creating prelims, copyright information and endmatter alongside our editorial assistant, checking that covers are accurate, working with the relevant editors on backlist refreshes and the extension publishing of some of the UK’s top author brands.
This is a role that requires established experience and it is essential that you have strong organisation and time-management skills, excellent communication skills and a meticulous eye to detail. This is not an entry level role: you likely already work in a desk editorial position and are looking to develop your project-management skills in a busy and fast-paced publisher, working with bestselling authors and the most talented and exciting new voices in the business. You will be particularly comfortable at managing multiple projects concurrently and working to deadline and within budget.
If this sounds like the role for you please get in touch by sending your CV, along with a covering letter, quoting job reference number 23.21 to vacancies@scholastic.co.uk
