Chicken House is a small, highly individual children’s book publishing company, home of bestselling authors James Dashner, Cornelia Funke, Kiran Millwood Hargrave and Maz Evans. We are seeking an enthusiastic individual to join our team as Publishing Assistant in our small and busy office in Frome.
This is an ideal entry-level position for someone hoping to start their career in publishing. You will be involved in all areas of the business, with a leaning towards the rights department. The ideal candidate will be extremely organized and detail-orientated, with bags of enthusiasm for children’s books. We’re looking for a team player who is willing to get stuck in to any task, is a brilliant communicator and has excellent organisational skills.
This will be a full-time role in our office in Frome.
Responsibilities:- Helping with administrative support and general upkeep of the office, including reception and mailroom tasks.
- Supporting the Rights Director with book fair preparation and sales materials.
- Organizing review and trade mailings.
- Dealing with general enquiries from booksellers, authors and readers.
- Assisting with events logistics; booking transport, couriers etc.
- Updating rights records.
- Well-organized, with the ability to manage and prioritize workloads across multiple departments.
- A team player with excellent interpersonal skills.
- A good level of literacy and numeracy, including strong written
- A can-do attitude, with demonstrable initiative.
- Experience using Microsoft Office.
- A genuine passion for children’s books.
- Educated to degree level, or have equivalent experience.
- Experience using design programmes/sites such as PhotoShop, InDesign and Canva an advantage.
- Workplace experience.
